Physical Examinations and Wellness
The staff at Academy Animal Hospital is dedicated to helping you have a healthy and happy relationship with your pet. Prevention for many diseases is the key. In the interest of your pet’s well-being, we offer various wellness protocols modeled to suit your pet’s needs. All dogs and puppies should routinely have a fecal check for intestinal parasites. Also, dogs older than 6 months should be screened for heartworm and placed on heartworm prevention. In general for dogs and cats under 7 years of age, a wellness blood profile screen is recommnded. For animals over 7 years of age, a more complete wellness blood screen is suggested, as well as blood pressure checks and breed-specific screening for diseases such as glaucoma, keratoconjuctivitis sicca (dry eye), cardiomyopathy, and mitral valve disease.
